Ruth Getachew, MA
Communications and External Relations Associate – ANDI, UNOPS, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ruth Getachew has over six years experience in Communications and External Relations in several international and local organizations including International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). She had served as the communications focal person for the 16th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (ICASA) which brought together over 10, 000 international delegates. During her tenure she has facilitated varieties of media relations and worked with international and national Media Houses. Ruth also acted as the promotion and communications officer for the Ethiopian Diabetes Association (EDA). In her capacity, she had served as the content developer and design layout manager of the official web site of EDA, served as the spokesperson of the Association in different stages and accomplished the developing, and distributing of the annual EDA magazine, “Lisane Siquar”, and other educational/promotional materials. She is also trained in Gender Studies and has worked as a Gender Expert consultant to Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre and Network (HoAREC&N). Ms. Getachew is currently working at ANDI/UNOPS in the capacity of Communications and External Relations Associate.
