George Rugarabamu, PhD

George joined ANDI in 2015 where he assumed technical responsibilities in ANDI’s Technology Development & Market Access team. Prior to joining ANDI, George was a doctoral researcher in molecular microbiology at the University of Geneva as an EVIMalaR PhD Fellow. Whilst in Geneva, he applied state-of-the-art genome engineering tools to unravel the biological function of genes required by apicomplexan parasites during the essential step of host-cell invasion. His work was featured in the Molecular Microbiology, Nature Communications and Carbohydrate Research journals. Prior to Geneva he conducted research on Kinetoplastid and Salmonella glycobiology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich as a Swiss Government Excellence Scholar, and was awarded MSc degree. He also holds a BSc degree in Biochemistry from Jacobs University Bremen (Germany). Apart from academia, George has been involved in numerous social entrepreneurship projects, notably with Vijana FM where he engaged East African youths on scientific research and reformulating national education policy.
